Commenting is Enabled

Well, the site changes are finally live. Commenting is now enabled on Sliding Constant. Admittedly, no one is going to see this post for a while (since I don’t have syndication set up again yet), but we’ll get there. 🙂

80’s Quiz

Since I couldn’t remember where it got posted in the first place, I decided to post results here.

Class Reunion

Amy grudgingly went with me to my 10-year high school reunion this last Saturday. Grudgingly, because there were several friends (I won’t mention names, but one’s initials are Jody Jordan) that vigorously warned us not to go. I understood why they said what they did (and agreed with their opinions in general), but I insisted on going because there were specific people that I was hoping to see. Now that we’ve gone, allow me to give my reaction to the naysayers: “PBBBBBBBT!!!!”

I’ll post more later, but the short of it is that Amy and I sat at the back table with a fellow classmate and dear friend of mine (and her husband) and had a wonderful time. Every once in a while, I actually do know what I’m talking about. 🙂

Little Earthquakes

No, this isn’t a post about a Tori Amos album. I just wanted to drop in a quick comment that it’s really weird to wake up at 4:00 AM because the bed is shaking and realize that you probably just experienced an earthquake. Creepy.

Nostalgia and Shrimp Sauce

Yes, it’s that time of year again, friends. A couple of weeks ago, I took another trip to Tuscaloosa as a corporate representative at the career fair. I promise I’m going to try to write about things other than my trips there, but it always seems like I come away from these trips with more to say than usual. Fortunately, I’m in a much less introspective mood than usual, and you even get a few pictures this time.

Please State the Nature of the Comedic Emergency

I was talking to Jessica today, and the conversation (unsurprisingly) drifted to Dragon*Con. It brought me around to several of the little snippets of experience about which I meant to post here. It’s been a few months, but here’s one of them.

Cool Mac IM Client

Thanks to Amy for finding a seriously cool IM client for Mac OS X called Proteus (link defunct). This thing is pretty awesome. It does meta-contacts like Trillian Pro, and the author is asking only $10 to register it. It didn’t take me long to find my credit card.

A Recipe of My Own

(edited 26 November 2002: I made this again today and adjusted a couple of things. I cut the bacon to half a package, firmed up the cooking time [an hour is a bit too long], and modified the directions on the onions a bit so that you don’t have to drain them.)

I piddled around with this one until I think I have it right. Thanks to Monica for helping me find what was missing. I just happened to think that Misty and Stephen will be having these for the first time on Sunday. More converts!!

Going Back (part 2)

I left the house at about 6:30 Saturday morning. It had been over 4 years since I had last made the 3 hour drive from the home where I grew up to Tuscaloosa. From homecoming at my high school the night before, I was driving to homecoming at UA.

Going Back (part 1)

Going back is always interesting. This last Friday night marked the 10th anniversary of my high school senior year homecoming football game. In honor of the occasion, classmates organized a reception and special seating at the game. Since I had not seen a lot of these people in over 9 years, I decided it would be cool to stop by and see who would show up.
