San Francisco Vacation Musings

added July 4, 2014: I noticed that this never got published. I’m not sure why not, but my first guess is that I was still working on it a bit at a time. Well, even without the wreck, I wouldn’t be able to remember the emotional details that I was shooting for. So, I’m just going to come up with an approximate date and go ahead and publish it. –Jeff

I’ve been trying to figure out how to write about my recent awesome vacation to San Francisco. I realized that if I concentrated on what I did, it would sound like an elementary school report. Instead, I’m going to give a shot at talking about how I felt about some of the things I did and saw. If nothing else, it will be more original. 🙂

A Long-Overdue Picture

Just over 2 years ago, I posted here about an old friend I had gotten back in touch with after many years. This last week while I was on vacation Amy helped me get a picture that’s about 18 years in the making:

Me and Cath

The long chat outside the Ferry Building was so worth the sunburn. 🙂

Back From Vacation

I do believe a week away was exactly what I needed, and now I’m back. 🙂

I’ll try to discipline myself over the next week or so to actually write about what I did while I was away. To start with though, here’s a quickie for you.

While we were in the “Sky Church” at the Experience Music Project (now part of Seattle’s Museum of Popular Culture [MoPop]), I started hearing a song that I immediately started humming along with but didn’t immediately place. Turns out it was an artist named Petra Haden doing an almost completely a cappella remake of Journey‘s “Don’t Stop Belivein’“. Turns out there was a competition for creating videos to go with that song and the others on the same compilation album, and YouTube has the video for this one. I don’t particularly like the spoken word portion. It doesn’t fit with the hyper-accuracy of the rest of the song, but I forgive it anyway. 🙂

BTW, this song was recorded for an album full of “guilty pleasure” songs.

Back to Regular Life

Wow. Four days and change spent in New York, and my first time in the city at that. I have no idea where to start yet. I’ve spent most of today just readjusting to “regular life”, but honestly that has more to do with how I react to being outside my routine than with New York.

San Francisco

For those that don’t know, I spent all of last week out in San Francisco (okay, Burlingame, actually) on a business trip. Aside from the work I was there to do, I actually did manage to see some of the town. The visit has brought a lot of thoughts to my mind, but I’m only going to add a few right now.
