{"id":161,"date":"2004-12-03T13:28:05","date_gmt":"2004-12-03T19:28:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/slidingconstant.net\/?p=161"},"modified":"2025-02-14T21:56:15","modified_gmt":"2025-02-15T03:56:15","slug":"entry-35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/slidingconstant.net\/?p=161","title":{"rendered":"Tenet Misquoted?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I followed a link today from Slashdot to an&nbsp;<a rel=\"noopener\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2004\/dec\/1\/20041201-114750-6381r\/\" target=\"_blank\">article<\/a>&nbsp;from the Washington Times about George Tenet speaking at an \u201cinformation-technology security conference\u201d in Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>Most of it sounds like boilerplate vague \u201cwe need to make the Internet more secure\u201d talk, but this line was interesting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Access to networks like the World Wide Web might need to be limited to those who can show they take security seriously, he said.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>It was not a <em>direct quote<\/em>. I wonder if this was a case of the reporter misunderstanding something and screwing it up, or if this really was said (in which case it\u2019s pretty clear that Tenet has absolutely no idea what he\u2019s talking about).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Slashdotters, of course, went nuts. *shrug* Me, I mostly ignore ideas like this that are so obviously impractical to implement.
